The term glitch is generally used to describe a short-lived fault in a system, or a break from a flow within a system, which was designed to work as a coherent entity and to follow its set of objectives.

With this in mind we are looking for local artists interested in presenting their artifacts as an example of their repurposing of technology in the production of new sounds or new performance instruments. We welcome applications that show original and creative transformations of consumer electronic technology for alternative use both in the form of new “instruments” or tools for other artistic or interactive practices. Please send a short description of your work and its possible use together with 2 pictures and a short sample in mp3 format to Giorgio: giorgio@newmusic.org by April 30, 2012. Only authors of selected projects will be contacted to arrange presentation/performances during the VNM Festival • October 18-19-20, 2012.

It’s time for a swag/flair-making night! Let’s get ready to show our enthusiasm for Maker Faire at the “Meet your Makers” kick-off party, happening on March 15th at the Museum of Vancouver!

What: Vancouver Mini Maker Faire Swag/Flair-making Night

Who: Anyone who wants to help make swag, or work on their own flair or projects for the “Meet your Makers party”.

Please bring your own ideas/materials for your Maker Faire Flair, but we’ll also have some stations set up for those that want to help make swag, like button-making etc.

I’m really digging the first test drawing that the new plotbot squeezed out from it’s steppers. The image it created on the paper was generated by a couple of different tweaks to the AFMotor+AccelStepper example code.

This plotbot is made up of two PF35T-48 steppers being driven by an arduino & adafruit motor shield.

Future improvements include a servo to control the penup/pendown commands, a MakerBot’d gondola, and some sweet code to make it dance on the paper. I’ll be bringing this drawing machine to the Meet Your Makers event on March 15 @ the Museum of Vancouver.

… oh. and the glowy thing in the bottom-right corner of the first picture is a 5m section of adafruit’s digital addressable RGB LED strip. So much fun to play with, and it comes on a badass radioactive reel!

You’ve met Tim the new guy, right? 95% awesome, 15% kick ass. He’s been to the space twice and finished two different projects. What is your secret? He’s some kind of wizard, I tell you. I will photo his next work on Tuesday.

The legendary robbat made a special appearance last night and made this awesome sizing test for nuts and bolts. It’s hanging proudly between the stock material and the crafting center.

Rest easy! Thursdays are your new favorite time to get your make on. Same bat channel, different bat time.
