How To

The MAME arcade cabinet in VHS serves a number of purposes. It is a media server, arcade game frontend, and general purpose workstation. Here are some of the ways you can interact with it. If you want to monkey with the computer, the username is vhs and the passw0rd is hackspace. If you break it, please fix it (or at least tell someone else who can fix it).

MPD Audio Server - MPD is a client/server MP3 player. The server is on the MAME machine. The client is used to create playlists, pause/play the tracks. You can load the client onto your Android phone, your iPhone, your Mac, or interact with it through the web portal (not yet released.. it'd be great to poke this developer to see if we can beta his MPD web client). To configure your MPD client software, connect your device to the VHS wifi, then set the server to mame.hackspace.ca, use the default port of 6600, and leave the username/password blank.

Arcade Frontend - WahCade is the frontend software for the MAME emulator on the arcade.

If WahCade is not running, you should start it from the icon on the MAME machine's desktop, or from the menu.

History

In case you haven't noticed, there's a full sized four player arcade game in the corner at the hackspace. The idea is to convert this into a four player MAME system. The cabinet is Blitz 99. Ninety Nein purchased the cabinet shortly after we moved upstairs to VHS2.0. He and a few other hearty fellowes hauled it all the way up those crazy wooden stairs. He has 'donated' it to the space for group hacking/use.

Check out the varied and colourful history of this project

MAME hackers are encouraged to add functionality to the machine, and record what they do here in the wiki.

To Do

You got silk screen in my MAME Cabinet! No, you got MAME Cabinet in my silk screen!

The current plan is to use the available space in the bottom of the MAME cabinet as a light proof box in which we can develop silk screens. Lacking a complete knowledge of the silk screen process, I've enlisted Emily for some pointers. These are the things we need to do to make this happen:

Parts Wanted/Needed

  1. Black piano hinges
  2. 12 Additional buttons (which will give us a total of 6 per player)
  3. killer graphics (vinyl?)
  4. control panel with new plexi that would allow for better layout of controls
  5. Ipac 4
  6. 4 coin buttons
