Laser Cutter Project
VHS has purchased a badass monster laser cutter for the space! The model number is the CM1080 which sports a 80x100cm work area and an 80W laser.
Current project status:
The laser cutter is physically in the building, and the gantry system and general control systems have been tested to be working.
Laser tube is installed and connected to both power and water, but has not been tested yet.
Vent cover is installed and vent hose is installed between it and the fan.
Vent hose extension needs to be connected from the fan to the laser cutter's vent hose.
Water cooler hose needs to be connected to the laser cutter.
Laser cutter needs to be positioned in the room
It needs to be leveled
Its mirrors need to be aligned
Transformer for converting from 110V to 220V needs to be installed in its wooden box, with holes cut for power cords, switch (which still needs to be wired in) and air flow.
We need safety gear: goggles, spray bottle, fire extinguisher.
It needs to be connected to a computer
It needs to be tested & calibrated
On/Off beam power
E-stop
Limit switches
Beam focus
Beam “straightness” (tilted mirror = angled cuts)
Accuracy & Repeatability
It needs a table of material properties
material type x beam intensity ⇒ depth of cut (mm) or BAD IDEA (do not attempt)
It needs procedure checklists:
normal startup
normal shutdown
E-stop procedure
in-case-of-fire procedure
normal running (between startup & shutdown)
It needs software and accompanying documentation
